This restaurant takes it portions and challenges seriously. How about a 2.5 pound burger? Just kidding that isn’t a challenge at Fat Tony’s that’s just part of the regular menu. No they have three challenges, one that picks fire over-size. We featured the burger challenge earlier, so now we are in the mood for cheese steak.

This is another lead on we got a food challenge based upon a news article. The article was from last summer so information may not be up to date. As always we will try to verify with the restaurant. But if you are interested in trying it before then, call the restaurant for verification.

EATING CONTEST:

Eat a 5-pound hoagie which includes sirloin steak, smoked sausage, ham, turkey, bacon, grilled chicken nuggets, meatballs, three breakfast sausage patties, fries, peppers and 10 slices of cheese on a foot of Italian bread in 30 minutes or less.

The 2012 Crif Dog Classic Hot Dog Eating Contest

Is New York City big enough for two main even type hot dog eating contests in one day? We shall find out on July 4th, 2012. For that is when the Crif Dog Classic is taking on Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. With its own large cash prizes, several bands, six-time Nathan’s winner Takeru Kobayashi and its being covered live on SI.com it will certainly give Nathan’s Famous a run for its money.

Many will remember Kobayashi sparked controversy when he was not allowed to compete in the 2010 Nathan’s contest because he would not sign an exclusive contract with Major League Eating. Well now he will be the featured competitive eater at the new rival.

Along with announced prizes of $15,000 for first place along with another $10,000 combined for 2nd through 5th place, Crif Dogs owner Brian Shebairo said that a trio of Brooklyn-based bands including the Wild Yaks, Andy Suzuki and The Method and The Electric Mess will be among the other acts performing. In addition Renowned New York chef Sam Mason will serve as an honorary judge for the Classic’s hot dog eating contest for the inaugural Crif Dog Classic on July 4th at Roberta’s in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Shebairo was quoted as saying: “It’s going to be a must-see, uniquely New York event that we hope will continue to grow year after year.”

11:00AM to 3:00pm on Wednesday, July 4th, 2012.

THE EATING CONTEST:

There will be a total of ten contestants. The Crif Dog Classic website does not mention the format, but it is assumed it will be similar to Nathan’s ,with 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs in buns as possible.

We get leads on Food Challenges from many sources. Some of the best are from the competitive eaters that go around taking the challenges. The lead and information on this one we owe to two great competitive eaters and bloggers, Naader “Freak8r” Reda and Aaron Wakamatsu. Without their efforts, it is doubtful we would have known of this challenge as they don’t have a website or a Facebook page. Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest 2012

On July 4th, 2012 at 12PM Eastern Time Nathan’s Hot Dogs will once again hold the grand daddy of all eating competitions. Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest has been held continuously since 1916 with the exception of 1941 and 1971 due to war and civil unrest, respectively. This event is not only one of the oldest it is definitely the most famous with approximately 40,000 people attending and another 1.95 million viewing it on ESPN last year.

This year’s contestants will have earned their way to the championship via 13 qualifying tournaments around the country with each tournament awarding a place for the top male and female finisher(There is still time to watch one of the last few remaining qualifiers in Pittsburgh on the 13th of June, Charlotte on the 16th and Boston on the 23rd).

DATE AND TIME OF EATING COMPETITION:

12:00pm on Wednesday, July 4th, 2012.

THE EATING CONTEST:

Contestants will have 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs in buns as possible. The Record is held by Joey Chestnut with 68 hot dogs during that period.
